{tackle football begins}

the very reason why we haven't started Jaxon in football is the same reason why he will shine in this sport. he is little...but he is fast.
sabe and his brothers started little league football aka "anklebiters" when they were 7 or 8. sabe insists it really was a form of after-school daycare :) they would walk the mile home, get dressed in their gear and walk right back to practice since his mom worked in DC. each one of the boys had their strengths and their little idiosyncrises, but the 4 older boys all ended up with the same position as Varsity QB. For 14 years, the South Lakes Seahawks had an Anderson quarterback. pretty cool, huh?
the Upper Loudoun Youth Football League is hard core. i know it sounds crazy, but this is one competitive sport. from drafting, to cheerleaders, to games under lights & concession stands, this is the real deal. jaxon has been so excited to start. he was drafted onto the Seahawks!! it was pretty cool that he made it on that team, being Sabe's old mascot and all. when the day came to go pick up helmets and pads, the memories rushed back in Sabe's mind. next thing he knew, he had signed up to help coach.
practice started and little man Jax gave everything he had. it was so awesome to see him out there--the smallest kid on the team, so full of heart. within the first few days, you could see these boys become like brothers and the chanting and cheering gave me chills.
on the 9th day of practice, jaxon was going for a tackle and he fell--he fell hard right on the elbow he has already broken. it happened within 10 minutes of practice and i knew he was hurt bad from the tears that were pouring. but Sabe, being a tough guy and wanting his son to be a tough guy helped him up and put him back in the pack. he practice for 2 more hours and by the end, he couldn't even bend his arm.
i was sick--so sick. i took him to the ER the next morning and was so nervous that he had broken it once again. i couldn't stop thinking about how long this might take jaxon out of practice, his first game....i was beginning to get mad and then i could see how ridiculous i was acting because really, the only important thing was that jaxon was going to be okay. i can sometimes be a drama queen.
nope, not broken. just some major swelling in the joint, but enough to put him in a splint for a week and keep him out of practice for more. so, as i write this, just one more day until the dr. appt. and maybe #13 will join the team again!!
these pics were taken the day we picked up his gear. he could NOT wait to try it all on and go out for a few passes. isn't he cute?

Yes, Jaxon is such a cute young man, especially dressed up in full football gear. Like I said, he could always get college paid for by being a kicker!

Jen, thanks for sharing that...i never thought i could get a little emotional about football, but what you wrote was neat...okay only a "little." don't tell ry i told you that, now I can see more why ryan is so passionate about this sport...i think that is awesome sabe and jaxon have this to share together.
